If you are an entrepreneur or content creator looking for a way to transform knowledge into income, Teachable is the platform for you.

Teachable is a learning management system (LMS) based by Angkur Nagpal as a side project. It was previously called Fedora. Nagpal, a course builder himself, grew frustrated over the lack of direct accessibility to students some platforms had. He decided to create his online learning platform with characteristics that he envisioned his classes and students could like.

In 2020, sources state that Hotsmart acquired Teachable for approximately $250M.

Who Uses Teachable?

We can’t deny that we would like to take a slice out of the ever-growing demand from the fast and booming industry of online learning.

It’s excellent for entrepreneurs, founders, and small business owners that want to make online courses into a potentially lucrative business. Teachable is utilized by individuals like Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income to sell their courses to students.

You also have enterprises such as The New York Times, Shopify, and Penn Law.

As of this moment, more than 100,000 creators sold over $1 billion in classes and training for students all around the world.

Here are some of the features I enjoyed in Teachable:

Ease of Use

Teachable’s best feature is being less of a tech hassle and more of being your partner-in-arms to a company.

As mentioned previously, Teachable prides itself on its simplicity of use. Going around and operating the course will be found easy by tech beginners.

When you register on the site, it leads you to the dashboard. There you may see headers such as users, sites, sales, emails, and courses. It is pretty straightforward. Uploading files, reviewing analytics, issuing refunds, and communication with students becomes easier for the user.

Customization

Teachable’s list of partners is pretty extensive making it possible to incorporate as many tools as you need. You will also realize that it is easy to create multimedia lectures, videos, homepage, and landing pages with their power editor.

Users can select to make an attractive landing page with Teachable’s large selection of themes for your online course website. All you have to do is upload the logos, text, images and select color schemes to fit your business’ branding.

If you’re an advanced user, you have the option of inserting custom CSS or HTML to the Code Snippets Area.

Marketing, Student Tracking Tools, and Analytics Capabilities

It has all the necessary and essential sales tracking and analytics tools that you’d need while trying to analyze your course sales. You can see how well your classes have performed in specific periods.

For higher plans, you get access to advanced sales features like one-click upsells and bundles. With this, you can offer your students discounts should they decide to obtain a second course. It is a fantastic way of increasing conversions.

In regards to student tracking, you can check student registration and engagement. You will receive reports on how your students interact with your courses, their completion rates, and in which the students get stuck.

You don’t need to worry about monitoring sales and student insights with their comprehensive dashboards. Teachable deals with technology and promotion for you.

Completion Certificates

You would need a Pro or Business Plan to get this feature. The class will award the certificates upon completion (Admin > Courses > Course > Certificates). There are templates available. Teachable will automatically insert your school name, student’s name, and title of the course. You may change elements of your certificate such as logo, colour scheme, and pre-set images. But, you may also create one yourself using the block editor (rich text and Liquid/HTML blocks).

Payment Options

You don’t need to find a 3rd party for payment processing as Teachable comes with its in-built payment processing through Teachable Payments.

You may select your payment currency from a wide range of choices. You can also create coupons and discount codes for students and affiliate codes. Teachable will handle affiliate payouts automatically.

Teachable has options like Stripe and PayPal and advanced payment options like Visa and Mastercard.

You have the option of charging your classes as one-time purchases, monthly payments, or as a subscription which your students can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

Customer Support

The support is responsive. It has a comprehensive knowledge library with online lessons and lives webinars for common questions you may ask as you start creating your first course. But, if you have any additional questions, you can create a ticket. Normally, you’ll hear back from service within one day. Professional Teachable clients have access to live chat service.

Now that I’ve talked about what I enjoyed about Teachable, here are a few things I do not like:

  • No free plans.
  • Teachable does not have a free plan. But, it does offer a 14-day trial.
  • 5% transaction fees
  • There’s a 5% transaction fee for those who opt for the Basic plan.
  • No phone service.
  • There’s no phone number to contact for inquiries.

Why should you try it?

I’m not the most tech-savvy man out there. Far from it, actually. I have had many a day being the most confused about the crowd. But with Teachable, I found it fairly simple. It does take a while to explore the website, its features, and test stuff out. Akin to a duck testing the waters first.

You can teach how you would like to learn by using customization tools to personalize your content. Subscription Teachable Plan Charged Same Day

You don’t have to worry about marketing. Teachable has built-in features to look after taxes, payouts, affiliates, and authors. So all you have to worry about is creating the content that you want to sell.

To Sum It Up

Teachable is an approachable platform for complete beginners and busy entrepreneurs who wish to focus more on course creation than the business’s technology and marketing aspect.

You may make your online course on any topic you love, and Teachable helps you turn that into a company. Why not start today?
