Teachable is the platform for you if you’re an entrepreneur or content creator searching for a way to transform knowledge into income.

Teachable is a learning management system (LMS) based by Angkur Nagpal as a side project. It was previously known as Fedora. Nagpal, a course builder himself, decided to create his online learning platform with characteristics that he envisioned his classes and students would enjoy after getting frustrated over the lack of direct accessibility to students some platforms had.

In 2020, sources state that Hotsmart obtained Teachable for approximately $250M.

Here are some of the features I liked in Teachable:

Ease of Use

Teachable’s best feature is being less of a tech hassle and more of being your partner-in-arms to a business.

As stated previously, Teachable prides itself on its ease of use. Tech beginners will find it easy to go around and operate the program.

The dashboard is the first thing a user would see after registering on the website. There you may see headers such as users, sites, sales, emails, and courses. It’s pretty straightforward. Uploading files, reviewing analytics, issuing refunds, and communicating with students becomes a lot easier for the user.

Customization

Teachable’s list of partners is pretty extensive making it possible to integrate as many tools as you need. You will also find that you can easily create multimedia lectures, videos, homepage, and landing pages with their power editor.

Teachable offers a large choice of themes for your online course website which you can select to make an attractive landing page. All you have to do is upload the logos, text, images and select color schemes to fit your business’ branding.

You have the choice of inserting custom CSS or HTML to the Code Snippets region if you are an advanced user.

Marketing, Student Tracking Tools, and Analytics Capabilities

When you are trying to analyze your path sales, Teachables has all of the necessary and essential sales tracking and analytics tools that you’d need. You can see how well your classes have performed in specific periods.

You can provide your students discounts should they decide to buy a second course when you get access to advanced sales features like one-click upsells and bundles from availing greater plans. It is a fantastic way of increasing conversions.

When it comes to student tracking, you can check student enrollment and engagement. You will receive reports on how your students interact with your classes, their completion rates, and where the students get stuck.

Teachable deals with technology and marketing for you so you do not need to worry about monitoring student and sales insights with their comprehensive dashboards.

Completion Certificates

To access this feature, you would need a Pro or Business Plan. The class will award the certificates upon completion (Admin > Courses > Course > Certificates). There are templates available. Teachable will automatically insert your school name, student’s name, and title of the course. You may change elements of your certificate like logo, colour scheme, and pre-set images. But, you may also create one yourself using the block editor (rich text and Liquid/HTML blocks).

Payment Options

Teachable comes with its in-built payment processing via Teachable Payments. With this, you don’t have to get a 3rd party for payment processing.

You can choose your payment money from a broad assortment of choices. You may even generate coupons and discount codes for students and affiliate codes. Teachable will handle affiliate payouts automatically.

Teachable has options like Stripe and PayPal and advanced payment options like Visa and Mastercard.

You have the option of charging your courses as one-time purchases, monthly payments, or as a subscription which your pupils can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

Customer Support

The support is responsive. It has a comprehensive knowledge library with online lessons and lives webinars for common questions you might ask as you begin creating your first course. You can create a ticket if you have any additional queries. Usually, you’ll hear back from service within one day. Professional Teachable clients have access to live chat service.

What Plans can I avail?

Teachable allows customers to choose among three options: Basic, Pro, and Business.

While Teachable doesn’t have a free version, it will offer a 14-day free trial for people who want to dip their toes first and take a look at its features before committing.

All plans include unlimited video, classes, and hosting. It also has integrated payment processing, pupil management, lecture comments, basic quizzes, no fees on free classes, and VAT (value-added tax) for the EU.

Basic ($39/month or $29/month if annual billing is selected )

Each of the base features include unlimited students, class product, coaching product, a members-only community, automatic sign-ups, and two admin-level users. You’ll need to pay the monthly fee along with a 5% transaction fee on this plan.

Including everything in Pro plus 20-admin level users, bulk student enrollments, manual pupil imports, custom user functions, advanced theme customization, and group coaching calls. Teachable Academy

Here are a few things I don’t like about Teachable now that I’ve talked about what I enjoyed about it:

  • No free plans.
  • Teachable does not have a totally free plan. But, it does offer a 14-day trial.
  • 5% transaction fees
  • There’s a 5% transaction fee for people who opt for the Basic plan.
  • No phone service.
  • There is no phone number to contact for queries.

Why should you try it?

I am not the most tech-savvy person out there. Far from it, actually. I’ve had many a day being very confused about the crowd. However, with Teachable, I found it reasonably easy. It does take a while to explore the web site, its features, and test stuff out. Akin to a duck testing the waters .

You can teach how you would like to learn by utilizing customization tools to personalize your content. Teachable Academy

You don’t need to worry about marketing. All you have to worry about is making the content that you want to sell since Teachable has built-in features to take care of taxes, payouts, affiliates, and authors.

To Sum It Up

Teachable is an approachable platform for complete beginners and busy entrepreneurs who want to focus more on course creation than the business’s tech and marketing aspect.

You can create your online course on any subject you love, and Teachable helps you turn that into a company. Why not start today?
