teachable-review

Teachable is the platform for you if you are an entrepreneur or content creator looking for a way to transform knowledge into income.

Teachable is a learning management system (LMS) founded by Angkur Nagpal as a side project. It was previously known as Fedora. Nagpal, a class builder himself, grew frustrated over the lack of direct access to students some platforms had. He decided to create his online learning platform with features he envisioned his courses and students could enjoy.

In 2020, sources state that Hotsmart obtained Teachable for about $250M.

In A Nutshell Teachable Add Youtube Video

Teachable allows one to make and sell online courses and training with videos, quizzes, and lectures. It has a simple and intuitive interface which makes it an excellent platform for complete beginners. You don’t have to have a virtual assistant or team member to perform it because it already deals with your sales tracking, payment collections, and affiliates commissions. Instead, you can focus more on course construction.

Who Uses Teachable?

We can’t deny that we would like to take a slice from the ever-growing demand from the quick and booming industry of online learning.

Entrepreneurs, creators, and small business owners that wish to make online courses into a potentially profitable business will find using Teachables to be excellent. Individuals like Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income use Teachable to sell their courses to students.

You also have enterprises like The New York Times, Shopify, and Penn Law.

More than 100,000 founders sold over $1 billion in courses and coaching for students all over the world as of this moment.

Here are some of the features I liked in Teachable:

Ease of Use

Teachable’s best feature is being less of a technician headache and more of being your partner-in-arms to a business.

As mentioned earlier, Teachable prides itself on its ease of use. Going around and operating the course will be found easy by tech novices.

When you register on the site, it leads you to the dashboard. There you will see headers such as users, websites, sales, emails, and classes. It is pretty straightforward. It is easier for the user to upload files, review analytics, issue refunds, and communicate with students.

Customization

You can integrate as many tools as you want as Teachable’s list of partners is pretty extensive. You’ll also realize that it is easy to create multimedia lectures, videos, homepage, and landing pages using their power editor.

Teachable offers a large choice of themes for your online course site which you can select to create an attractive landing page. All you have to do is upload the logos, text, images and choose color schemes to fit your business’ branding.

If you are an advanced user, you have the choice of inserting custom CSS or HTML into the Code Snippets region.

Marketing, Student Tracking Tools, and Analytics Capabilities

It has all the necessary and essential sales tracking and analytics tools that you would need while attempting to analyze your course sales. You can see how well your courses have performed in specific phases.

You can provide your students discounts should they decide to obtain a second course when you get access to advanced sales features like one-click upsells and packages from availing higher plans. It’s a good means of increasing conversions.

When it comes to student tracking, you can check student enrollment and engagement. You will receive reports on how your students interact with your classes, their completion rates, and where the students get stuck.

You don’t need to worry about tracking student and sales insights with their comprehensive dashboards. Teachable deals with technology and marketing for you.

Completion Certificates

To access this feature, you’d need a Pro or Business Plan. The class will award the certificates upon completion (Admin > Courses > Course > Certificates). There are templates available. Teachable will automatically insert your school name, student’s name, and name of the program. You may change elements of your certificate like logo, color scheme, and preset pictures. But, you may also create one yourself using the block editor (rich text and Liquid/HTML blocks).

Payment Options

You don’t need to get a 3rd party for payment processing as Teachable comes with its own refundable payment processing via Teachable Payments.

You may choose your payment money from a broad range of choices. You may also create coupons and discount codes for students and affiliate codes. Teachable will manage affiliate payouts automatically.

Teachable has options like Stripe and PayPal and advanced payment options like Visa and Mastercard.

Your students can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. You also have the choice of charging your classes as one-time purchases, monthly payments, or as a subscription.

Customer Support

The support is responsive. It has an extensive knowledge library with online lessons and lives webinars for common questions you might ask as you begin creating your first course. But, if you have any additional queries, you can create a ticket. Normally, you’ll hear back from service within one day. Professional Teachable customers have access to live chat support.

What Plans can I avail?

Teachable enables customers to choose one of three options: Basic, Pro, and Business.

While Teachable doesn’t have a free version, it does offer a 14-day free trial for those who want to dip their feet first and check out its features before committing.

All plans include unlimited video, classes, and hosting. Additionally, it has integrated payment processing, student management, lecture comments, basic quizzes, no fees on free courses, and VAT (value-added tax) for the EU.

All the base features include unlimited students, course merchandise, training product, a members-only community, automated sign-ups, and two admin-level users. You’ll have to pay the monthly fee along with a 5% transaction fee on this plan.

Now that I have talked about what I enjoyed about Teachable, here are a few things I don’t like:

  • No free plans.
  • Teachable doesn’t have a free plan. But, it does offer a 14-day trial.
  • 5% transaction fees
  • There’s a 5 percent transaction fee for people who opt for the Basic plan.
  • No phone service.
  • There is no telephone number to contact for inquiries.

Why should you try it?

I’m not the most tech-savvy man out there. Far from it, actually. I’ve had many a day being very confused about the crowd. However, with Teachable, I found it fairly simple. It does take a while to explore the web site, its features, and test stuff out. Akin to a duck testing the waters first.

You can teach the way you would like to learn by using customization tools to personalize your content. Teachable Add Youtube Video

You don’t need to think about marketing. All you’ve got to worry about is creating the content you want to sell since Teachable has built-in features to look after payouts, taxes, affiliates, and writers.

To Sum It Up

Teachable is an approachable platform for complete beginners and busy entrepreneurs who wish to focus more on course creation than the business’s tech and marketing aspect.

Teachable helps you turn the online courses you can create on any topic you love into a business. Why not start now?
