If you are an entrepreneur or content creator looking for a way to transform knowledge into earnings, Teachable is the platform for you.

Teachable is a learning management system (LMS) based by Angkur Nagpal as a side project. It was previously known as Fedora. Nagpal, a class builder himself, decided to create his online learning platform with characteristics he envisioned his courses and students would enjoy after getting frustrated over the lack of direct access to students some platforms needed.

In 2020, sources state that Hotsmart acquired Teachable for approximately $250M.

Teachable allows one to create and sell online courses and coaching with videos, quizzes, and lectures. It’s a straightforward and intuitive interface which makes it an outstanding platform for beginners. You don’t need to have a virtual assistant or team member to do it because it already takes care of your sales monitoring, payment collections, and affiliates commissions. Instead, you can concentrate more on course building.

Who Uses Teachable?

We can not deny that we would like to take a slice from the ever-growing demand from the fast and booming industry of online learning.

It’s ideal for entrepreneurs, founders, and small business owners who want to create online courses into a potentially lucrative business. Individuals like Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income utilize Teachable to sell their courses to students.

You also have enterprises like The New York Times, Shopify, and Penn Law.

As of now, more than 100,000 founders sold over $1 billion in classes and training for students all around the world.

Here are some of the features I liked in Teachable:

Ease of Use

Teachable’s best feature is being less of a technician headache and more of being your partner-in-arms to a company.

As mentioned previously, Teachable prides itself on its ease of use. Tech novices will find it easy to go around and operate the program.

When you register on the site, it leads you to the dashboard. There you will see headers such as users, sites, sales, emails, and classes. It’s pretty straightforward. It is easier for the user to upload documents, review analytics, issue refunds, and communicate with students.

Customization

Teachable’s list of partners is fairly extensive making it possible to incorporate as many tools as you need. You will also find that it is easy to create multimedia lectures, videos, homepage, and landing pages with their power editor.

Users can select to create an appealing landing page with Teachable’s large selection of topics for your online course website. All you’ve got to do is upload the logos, text, images and choose color schemes to fit your business’ branding.

You have the choice of inserting custom CSS or HTML into the Code Snippets Area if you’re an advanced user.

Marketing, Student Tracking Tools, and Analytics Capabilities

When you are trying to analyze your course sales, Teachables has all of the necessary and essential sales tracking and analytics tools that you would need. You can see how well your classes have performed in specific phases.

You can offer your pupils discounts should they choose to buy another course when you get access to advanced sales features like one-click upsells and bundles from availing greater plans. It is a fantastic way of increasing conversions.

You can check student enrollment and engagement when it comes to student tracking. You will receive reports on how your students interact with your classes, their completion rates, and in which the students get stuck.

Teachable deals with tech and marketing for you so you don’t need to worry about tracking student and sales insights with their comprehensive dashboards.

Completion Certificates

To get this feature, you would need a Pro or Business Plan. The course will award the certificates upon completion (Admin > Courses > Course > Certificates). There are templates available. Teachable will automatically insert your school name, student’s name, and title of the program. You may change elements of your certificate such as logo, color scheme, and pre-set images. But, you may also create one yourself using the block editor (rich text and Liquid/HTML blocks).

Payment Options

Teachable comes with its in-built payment processing via Teachable Payments. With this, you don’t have to find a 3rd party for payment processing.

You can choose your payment currency from a broad range of choices. You can also create coupons and discount codes for students and affiliate codes. Teachable will handle affiliate payouts automatically.

Teachable has options like Stripe and PayPal and advanced payment options like Visa and Mastercard.

Your students can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. You also have the option of charging your courses as one-time purchases, monthly payments, or as a subscription.

Customer Support

The support is responsive. It has an extensive knowledge library with online lessons and lives webinars for common questions you might ask as you start creating your first course. But, if you have any additional questions, you can create a ticket. Usually, you will hear back from support within one day. Professional Teachable customers have access to live chat support.

Here are some things I don’t like about Teachable now that I’ve talked about what I liked about it:

  • No free plans.
  • Teachable doesn’t have a totally free plan. However, it does offer a 14-day trial.
  • 5% transaction fees
  • There’s a 5 percent transaction fee for those who opt for the Basic plan.
  • No phone service.
  • There is no telephone number to contact for inquiries.

Why should you try it?

I am not the most tech-savvy man out there. Far from it, actually. I have had many a day being the most confused about the bunch. However, with Teachable, I found it fairly easy. It does take some time to explore the web site, its features, and test stuff out. Akin to a duck testing the waters first.

You can teach how you would like to know by using customization tools to personalize your content. Teachable Jason Van Orden

You don’t need to worry about marketing. Teachable has built-in features to take care of taxes, payouts, affiliates, and writers. So all you’ve got to worry about is making the content you want to sell.

To Sum It Up

Teachable is an approachable platform for complete beginners and busy entrepreneurs who wish to concentrate more on course creation than the business’s technology and marketing aspect.

Teachable helps you turn the online courses you can create on any topic you love into a business. Why not start today?
